The vast majority of cars are equipped with spare tires
Spare tires are divided into full-size spare tires and non full-size spare tires. The so-called full-size spare tire refers to a spare tire with the same specifications and size as the other four normal tires of the original vehicle. The diameter and width of the non full size spare tire are slightly smaller than the other four normal tires. Most cars are equipped with spare tires that are not full-size, and only a few cars are equipped with full-size spare tires.

Different tires, including wheel hub, internal structure, tire tread pattern, load index, speed index, etc., may have different safety factors. Factors such as softness, hardness, grip, tire pressure, weight, wear and tear may vary, and there may even be differences in heat dissipation, aerodynamics, and other aspects. So, generally, spare tires cannot be used as normal tires for a long time, and there are several specific reasons for this.
Improper use of spare tire poses significant risks
1. Different specifications of tires may cause abnormal stress on vehicle components, and in severe cases, even lead to tire blowouts or rollovers, under special road conditions such as high-speed driving or cornering.
2. Different types of tires have different patterns, which may cause the vehicle to deviate. Not only does it seriously damage the tires, but it can also easily cause traffic accidents such as tire blowouts while driving at high speeds.
3. Due to different tire sizes, widths, and patterns, there are differences in grip. So when braking, it can cause damage to the vehicle's steering and braking systems. Moreover, emergency braking at high speeds can easily cause the vehicle to slip or even roll over.
4. Due to different specifications, sizes, and weights, the requirements for suspension are also different. If two tires on the same crossbeam are used for a long time with different sizes, it can cause significant damage to the vehicle's suspension system.
5. Due to different tire sizes, the ground clearance of the vehicle has changed and is uneven. Affects heat dissipation and wind movement. Increasing fuel consumption can also easily lead to vehicle shaking. When driving at high speeds, this vibration can intensify due to resonance, which can easily lead to major traffic accidents.
The rubber, steel wire, and wheel hub of the spare tire are generally inferior to those of a normal tire. Moreover, if not used for a long time, the degree of wear and tire pressure will be different from normal tires. Also, the production date of spare tires is not exactly the same as that of normal tires. So the service life is not as good as normal tires, and long-term use with normal tires can easily cause traffic accidents.
The spare tire can only be used for emergency purposes
Unless the spare tire is full-size and of the same model, which means it has the same specifications, structure, manufacturer, pattern, load index, speed level, and so on. And the tire pressure is normal, the wear level is similar to other tires, and the wheel hub is also the same. It can only be used as a substitute for normal tires if it is within the shelf life and the production date is similar to other tires (within 1 year). Otherwise, the spare tire can only be used temporarily and briefly as a replacement tire to keep the vehicle able to travel to the car repair point. Moreover, during short-term use, the speed limit should not exceed 80km/h, and some spare tires may not even exceed 60km/h. The driving distance should also not exceed 100km, otherwise it will bring huge traffic hazards.
